What Is Molluscum Contagiosum?
Molluscum contagiosum is a common viral skin infection caused by a poxvirus that produces small, dome-shaped, pearl-like bumps with a central dimple. It spreads through direct skin contact and shared surfaces — and is especially common in school-age children.
Skin-to-Skin Transmission
The virus spreads easily through direct contact between children — during play, contact sports, or simply sharing towels and clothing — making it one of the most contagious childhood skin conditions.
