What Is a Lipoma?
A lipoma is a slow-growing, benign tumor of fatty tissue that forms just beneath the skin. They are soft, movable, and typically painless — though larger or deeper lipomas can cause discomfort or cosmetic concern.
Superficial Lipomas
The most common type — soft, doughy lumps sitting just under the skin surface, most often on the trunk, shoulders, neck, or upper arms.
Deep or Subfascial Lipomas
Found beneath the muscle fascia, these can cause pressure, pain, or restricted movement depending on their size and location — and may require imaging before removal.
Multiple Lipomas (Familial Lipomatosis)
Some patients develop numerous lipomas across the body due to an inherited tendency — a condition called familial lipomatosis that benefits from a coordinated monitoring and removal plan.

We assess the lump’s size, mobility, consistency, and location to confirm the characteristic features of a benign lipoma.

For deeper, atypical, or rapidly growing lesions, imaging confirms the diagnosis before proceeding to removal.
